I decided to take Bearded Flat Stanley to one of the most well-known historic sites in Birmingham- The Civil Rights Museum. I had to complete a scavenger hunt for one of my Pedagogy II courses and I figured that Bearded Stanley could help me. We learned all about the history of civil rights in Birmingham and the long, hard battle for African Americans. I felt like Bearded Stanley learned a lot- I know I did! Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday was only a few days ago, so it was interesting for us to learn more about him and the strength and courage he possessed. Another famous figure during the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham was Reverend Shuttlesworth- his statue is pictured below.
During the scavenger hunt, we also learned about the terrible 16th Street Baptist Church bombings. Below is a picture of the 16th Street Baptist Church which is located right beside the museum.
